"We are proud to announce that the 2nd Annual Mount Airy Turkey Trout raised $6,000 to benefit the Mount Airy Net!" announced MAMSA President, Pamela Reed at the Dec. 3 Mount Airy Town Council meeting.

The Mount Airy Main Street Association and The Links at Challedon partnered this year to host the annual 5K turkey trot on the grounds of the nearby Mount Airy golf course.

"It was a huge success," stated Reed, "we had 370 participants - up by nearly 200 from the previous year. Our proceeds skyrocketed to $6,000." Reed pointed out that the success was largely due to community support. All of the Town Council members were on hand to help with the event, countless volunteers helped along the course, turkeys were donated to the winners. Many thanks go to event sponsors, Progressive Podiatry and CB Multi-Sport. "Challedon's staff was there the entire time to support the event," stated Reed, "Ben [Sproles] made sure that everything went smoothly." Reed also pointed out that the turkey trot was held within the town limits, staying local - helping the local economy.

The Mount Airy Net is a cooperative network of churches, civic organizations, and individuals providing a safety net of support and services for those in need.  Mount Airy Net operates within the town of Mount Airy, MD and  serves the four counties (Carroll, Frederick, Montgomery and Howard) that directly surround the town.  We provide local help for food, clothing, shelter, utility and other essentials.
