​Centrally located between Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Frederick, the Town of Mount Airy is a community with a rich history rooted in railroad transportation and the Civil War. A collection of commercial and residential buildings comprise Main Street, the spine of the Mount Airy Historical District, which has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984.

 

Downtown Mount Airy is a dynamic mix of locally owned shops and services. Main Street offers quaint shops, with a big city flair, offering women's fashion, gifts, full-service florist and gift boutique, and even a day spa. Visitors may find usual and unusual collectibles, country handcrafts, original art and photography, fabric for quilting, and many interests for the hobbyist, as well as casual dining. And, last but not least, buy local and eat fresh at the Mount Airy Main Street Farmers' Market, Wednesdays, 3-7 p.m., June - September!
