As part of the Main Street Maryland Program, and as a
member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation,
the Mount Airy Main Street Association has developed its
plans around the National Main Street Center’s Four
Point Approach to Revitalization. This approach
emphasizes the importance of working simultaneously in the
following areas:
ORGANIZATION: Building Consensus and cooperation among the
groups that play a role in the downtown. Many individuals and
organizations in the community have a stake in the economic
viability of downtown, including the full range of
stakeholders.
DESIGN: Improving the downtown’s image by enhancing its
physical appearance, including buildings, streetlights, window
displays, parking areas, signs, sidewalks, promotional
materials, and all other elements that convey a visual image
of downtown.
PROMOTION: Marketing downtown’s unique characteristics to
shoppers, investors, new businesses, tourists and others.
Promotion creates a positive image of downtown through retail
promotional activities, special events, and ongoing programs
to build positive perceptions of the district.
