March Into Spring - Regional Chili Cookoff Downtown Mount Airy

The Master of Ceremonies

This year's March Into Spring Chili Cookoff was a great success! It was a wonderful family event that brought hundreds of visitors into historic downtown Mount Airy for an afternoon of chili tasting, great music, and overall good times! Highlights included:

  • Chile recipe search through participating downtown shops with a gift basket going to the winner, courtesy of Cornerstone Fixturing;

  • Wing-eating contest, courtesy of The Upper Deck;

  • A local Restaruant/Firehouse Chili Cook-Off Challenge;

  • Great chili, courtesy of all the cook-off contestants;

  • A beer garden to raise money for MAMSA to support more great downtown activities, courtesy of National Public Distributing; and

  • Reggie the Clown to entertain the children!

Cooks from all over the region competed in this year's event in three categories: red chili, green chili, and salsa.

The Wing-Eating Contest

This year's wing eating contest had numerous contestants competing in a few heats.

Todd Kellner won decisively in the finals for the second year in a row!

The Crowd
Thanks to everyone in the community for supporting this event and making it a great success. Attendance was so high, all the cooks and the Restaurant/Firehouse Challenge entries ran out of chili before the end of the day!

This event was sanctioned by the International Chili Society and co-hosted by the Mount Airy Main Street Association and the Damascus Boy Scout Troop 445.
